The Key Dates You Need to Know

With 31 March 2026 fast approaching, it’s time to start preparing for the EOFBTY. To make sure you’re all set, mark these key dates in your calendar.

Amend

Two (2) Weeks

If you need to adjust your February/March deductions, make sure you do so at least two weeks prior to the pay date you are amending.
This is to give your payroll team, as well as our team, enough time to make the changes to your pay.

Claim

Friday 27 March 2026

To make sure your claims count towards your 2025/26 Fringe Benefits Tax (FBT) year, we need to receive them by Friday 27 March 2026.

Don’t have enough funds in your Maxxia account or a deduction set up for your benefit? Submit an amendment at least two weeks before your pay to request funds.

You can claim anytime leading up to 27 March 2026.

Spend

Tuesday 31 March 2026

This is the final date for spending funds on your Maxxia Wallet Mastercard. Keep in mind, some retailers and banks may take a few days to process transactions, so make sure you spend your balance before Tuesday 31 March 2026. Maxxia is not responsible for any delays in processing by vendors or financial institutions.

If you have any unspent funds remaining on your Maxxia Wallet at midnight Tuesday 31 March 2026, you will not lose this money.

Any remaining balance on Wednesday 1 April 2026 stays on your card but counts towards your new capping limit in the new FBT year. The carried over balance may mean you’ll need to adjust your fortnightly salary packaging budget on to the Maxxia Wallet, or you may reach your cap early.

Remember: you won’t receive a payment on your Maxxia Wallet Mastercard for your final pay in March 2026.

Your Maxxia Wallet annual cap is distributed throughout the year; however, you won't receive a payment on your Maxxia Wallet Mastercard on the final pay of this FBT year in March 2026. This gives you extra time to make the most of your remaining balance before the EOFBTY.

Your cap limit has not changed - it's the same annual budget, just over one less pay cycle.

Frequently Asked Questions: Salary Packaging and EOFBTY

View all FAQs

What happens if I reach my Salary Packaging or Meal Entertainment cap limit early?

Maxxia will keep track of your salary packaging payments and let you know if you reach your cap limit earlier than expected.

Once you reach your cap limit, we will pause your deductions and stop any further payments towards the relevant benefits until the new Fringe Benefits Tax (FBT) year begins on 1 April 2026. This won’t impact benefits that fall outside the cap, such as additional superannuation contributions, and work-related expenses, such as laptops (for those customers eligible to salary package these items).

The most common reason for reaching your limit early is due to salary packaging expenses that include GST, such as retail purchases. If you allocate your full cap to Mortgage, Rent, Loan or the Maxxia Wallet, you may be able to avoid unexpectedly reaching your cap early.

Do I need to claim my Meal Entertainment and Venue Hire balance?

You can claim and/or spend up to a combined cap limit of $2,650 each FBT year for Meal Entertainment and Venue Hire. Both benefits fall under the one cap limit.

If you choose to package Venue Hire on its own, the $2,650 annual cap still applies.

Venue Hire allows you to claim holiday accommodation or venues hired out for events.

To ensure your Meal Entertainment and Venue Hire claims are processed within the 2026/27 Fringe Benefits Tax (FBT) year, Maxxia must receive all claims by Friday 27 March 2026.

Is there anything I cannot buy with my Meal Entertainment funds?

Yes. Meal Entertainment funds cannot be used to purchase the following:
•    Meals or drinks purchased on-site at your workplace
•    Alcohol, unless it is consumed while dining out with friends or family
•    Groceries
•    Takeaway and home delivered meals such as Uber Eats

What is the end of FBT year, and how does it affect me?

Australian Tax Office (ATO) legislation requires a certain amount of Fringe Benefits Tax (FBT) to be paid on your novated lease.

The amount of FBT is based on the taxable value associated with your vehicle.

Depending on the type of car and the employer you work for, you may have options for offsetting your FBT, if required. These options include the Employee Contribution Method (ECM), where a post-tax contribution, equivalent to the taxable value of your vehicle, is deducted from your pay within the current FBT year, which is from 1 April to 31 March.

Most customers will not be impacted, and there is likely nothing they need to do prior to the end of the FBT year. If you are required to take action, we will be in touch.

Some customers – especially those who have recently begun a novated lease – may need to readjust their post-tax contributions to meet ATO requirements and reduce any FBT amount payable.

Why do my deductions differ from my proposal?

One of the most common questions we get at this time of year is, “Why does my deduction amount differ from my original proposal?”

The answer is that each time we provide you with an estimate of your deductions, we use the remaining pay cycles in the FBT year (ending 31 March) to calculate the numbers. As we get closer to March you may have fewer pay cycles than estimated. This is why there may be a difference in the estimate we calculated a month ago and the deduction amount you end up starting with.

We have therefore temporarily adjusted your deductions based on how many pay cycles are left and on the pro-rata FBT requirement.

The reason for this adjustment is to minimise any shortfall and potentially offset the amount of FBT you may need to pay. Your deductions will automatically return to the proposed amount from 1 April.

I'm starting a novated lease late in the FBT year – what do I need to do?

We will likely be in touch to discuss post-tax management of your lease, including whether you need to make a deposit directly to us if there are not enough pay runs to cover the required post-tax amount this FBT year.
